How fast is the coastline eroding near you?
USGS surveys the historical shoreline itself, transect by transect, and publishes the measured rate of retreat or growth per stretch of coast: not a modeled guess, and not "eroding" when the honest answer is that a stretch shows no significant trend. This is a stretch-level historical rate, not a substitute for a site-specific coastal engineering survey or a prediction of what happens at any one address.

Why this only covers the coast
USGS has only ever run its National Assessment of Shoreline Change along stretches of open ocean coast, 5 regions of it, covering the Gulf, the Atlantic Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, the Pacific Northwest, California and Hawaii. It does not cover the Great Lakes, inland waterways, or every mile of every one of those coastlines - only where USGS itself ran a shoreline-change survey. CoastErosionCheck reports exactly that footprint, honestly, rather than implying national coverage it doesn't have. Every number here is derived from USGS's own transects, not a site survey, and is not a substitute for one - for a specific address, USGS's own Coastal Change Hazards Portal is the authority.
